Although we meet in Chelmsford for our sittings, we are involved in many other projects around Essex to help make the world a better place to be. We are currently doing the following projects in these areas:
In Mid Essex we are currently working on improving PSHE lessons that are taught in schools. Our aim is to let young people have a say about what they are taught in these lessons, therefore, making the subject more relevant and beneficial to modern-day high schools and their students.
In North Essex we are focusing on a curriculum for life. Our aim is for people from different backgrounds to come to youth centres and discuss their careers. If this is successful, we would like to expand our project out to schools and other similar groups.
The south team are currently working on a curriculum for life project which will make sure that PSHE lessons in schools are relevant and useful to all young people when leaving school. This includes education on finance, first aid and mental health. We will be finalising details in our next area meeting at the end of February.
In West Essex we are raising awareness for the LGBTQ+ community and destroying negative views and stereotypes. We are currently doing this using statistics and we are running a questionnaire with young people on urban myths.
